Trimble ST30 Smart Target
Stop Measuring Rod Height Manually
With a traditional rod, changing the height means another measurement to take and another value to update before you keep working. With the Trimble ST30 Smart Target and dedicated ST Rod, rod height is measured automatically and reported directly to your field software. Extend it, collapse it, or adjust it as you work without stopping to manually measure and enter the new height.
How Automatic Rod Height Works
The ST30 pairs with the Trimble ST Rod, a telescoping rod adjustable from 1.55 m to 2.6 m. As you extend or collapse the rod, the ST30 automatically measures its height and keeps that information synchronized with your Trimble field software.
Rod height is updated at 1 Hz with a measurement accuracy of ±0.6 mm RMS, giving the system an accurate, continuously updated rod height as you work.
What Does This Look Like in the Field?
Throughout the day, rod height changes as you move from point to point and work around different jobsite conditions.
Instead of stopping to measure the rod and manually enter each new height, the ST30 handles it automatically. That means fewer interruptions, fewer opportunities for incorrect rod height entries, and less risk of costly rework
Built For One Person Robotic Layout
For one-person layout crews, automatic rod height removes another manual step from the workflow.
It was: Adjust the rod → measure the height → enter the height → continue layout
It becomes: Adjust the rod → keep working
The rod height stays synchronized with your Trimble field software as you make adjustments.
Why it matters
Small manual steps add up when you're laying out hundreds of points. Automatic rod height removes one of those repetitive steps, allowing your crew to adjust the rod as needed without stopping to measure, enter, or keep track of the height themselves.

FAQ
The ST30 works with the Trimble ST Rod to automatically measure rod height as the rod is adjusted. The height is synchronized with Trimble field software, removing the need to manually measure and enter each change.
The ST30 has a rod height measurement accuracy of ±0.6 mm RMS and updates the measured height at 1 Hz.
Automatic rod height is supported with the Trimble ST Rod, a telescoping rod that adjusts from 1.55 m to 2.6 m.
Yes. Trimble states that automatic rod height is synchronized with its field software, so crews can adjust the rod and continue working without manually entering the new height.
